MY FINAL SCHOOL YEAR AT NTIYI SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL IN MPUMALANGA.

My final school  year was at Ntiyi senior secondary secondary school, i matriculated 2008 at the age of 16. My school is situated at a small village called  Hoyi.I was doing science subjects at school, namely: mathematics, english, agricultural science, siswati, Life sccience, physcal science and life orientation. Iam a proud 2008 matriculant.

Hoyi is a small village which is highly developing, Many people there are well educated and Job secured. It is a very enclosed village we treat each other like one big family. Im very glad that i got to grow up there and attended both my primary and secondary level at this lovely place which groomed me to be the person iam today.

High school days where the best days of my life, i enjoyed every minute of it from grade 8 to grade 12. Grade 12 was the best of them all because i knew that it was my gate way to success. The only mission i had was to do well on my studies and get good results so that i can be accepted at any university of my choice. i realy enjoyed my final school year, i enjoyed being called a matriculant. The most thing that made me to work hard is the fact that i knew i was signing out of high school. I was involved in many sporting activities including netball, handball and lady soccer. I was also part of a debating team and a chess player too. i did everything i could that would make me remember my last school year. I dont regret anything i ever did during my last year all i wish for is to turn back the hands of time and be a high school student again, a grade 12 one in particular but unfortunately life has to go on have to live with the memories and treasure them.

REFLECTION

I had always imagined how my first days at University would be like, I knew that it would not be easy at all. At the end I finally experienced it and it all seemed like a dream coming true. My first day at the University was not a good day at all, the environment was too awkward for me and the food was not like a home cooked meal I never enjoyed it, that’s when the idea that I’m indeed away from home started kicking so hard in my heard. At first the idea that I’m going to University made me happy but finding out that the university is situated at a rural area really got to me because I knew that being stacked in rural areas is not so cool and we always behind with everything that’s happening around the world.

Reality started taking place when we started orientations, I really felt like I don’t belong here, I felt more like an outsider surrounded by strangers. It took me a while to make friends I was so reserved the first few days, I did not want anything to do that included friends, I wanted to get past what I was feeling alone. I started making friends after a week and I started feeling like I’m home and I felt wanted and belonging. When classes began I felt too much pressure and felt like I could not make it because I could not understand what was really expected of me or what to do in order to do the tasks assigned to me. It all began to be easy after two weeks and the fact that I’m familiar with social networks and how to use technological staffs made me to adapt easily.

University life is not difficult like everyone says it is. I overcame the situation and now I’m doing just fine, I feel like I have been here long enough and I get along with everyone. The friends I befriended the first week after my arrival are still my friends today, we getting along very well. The fear I had about not making it academically I overcame it also because I passed all my modules for the first semester, I did very well than I expected. My life at university is perfect everything is going into place nothing is missing. Sometimes I do miss home as there’s no place like home but this place does feel like “home away from home” now. I’m used to everything even the “food”. So far I’m doing very well, I adapted so well.

I came here with one reason and aim and that’s to get my Bed degree in foundation phase after four years and that’s what I’m planning to return back home with nothing more. I wish to do well in all my modules and have good academic records through the entire four years. I would like to make my four years the most memorable years that I would be proud of one day. I’m still paving my way to a better stay at university and to a better future.

Chrome Extension for Grade R: Numbers

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/48EoRqqZ7hwkZHIgwsRyTEoDotWxCSITx-aiUHGXGrEwdZKLhCAMtBQS6osk5706cyAbjvEcv98=s640-h400-e365-rw

I choose this Chrome Extension because it will help the Grade R learners to count, its a fun activity to help them recognize a place value and read numbers when they are counting and they wont be easily bored when working with numbers. It will aslo train their brains and give them a delicious and fun way to learn to count with this puzzle counting activity, because Grade R learners still learn best by working with physcal objects such as puzzles and blocks.

WHAT IS EXPECTED FROM GRADE R'S IN NUMBERS

The Grade R's first need to understand that numbers represent quantities, that objects can be sorted and grouped, and that things can be shared.   The Grade R learner should be able to recognize numbers up to 10 and count to 10. The learner should also be able to do simple addition and subtraction. The learner should also describe and represent numbers and their relationships.

MY PERSONAL TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

My name is Thobile Sambo I am a first year student at Tec Siyabuswa studying towards a Bed for foundation phase. I am going to be foundation phase teacher and this is my teaching philosophy.

A TEACHING PHILOSOPHY- is a statement that i construct to guide me as a teacher. This philosophy does not always stay the same it will evolve as I change or gain more insight into the teaching profession and how I fulfill my role in it
.
My philosophy will help me develop the process of learning and teaching with my learners because I will be guided by the conceptual elements that I will gain after my training as a future foundation phase teacher. Those elements are Caring which means that as a teacher I should be concerned and show empathy to my learners. Accountable meaning I should be liable to account for one’s actions. Critical meaning the ability to understand conditions that give rise to the present reality. Reflective meaning intentionally considering situations from multiple perspectives and carefully considering experience. Support and nurture learning process which helps me to understand how learning occurs in general and in different subject areas. Diverse educational contexts which is exhibiting a wide range of cognitive, linguistic, cultural, social and physical differences
.
Teaching has always been my passion and my goals as a future foundation phase teacher is to help the young minds of the nation develop the sense of knowledge and also help them equip new skills. I believe and I know that I can help them realize their potentials. I will also help students find their voices because it will help them to communicate with me as teacher and with their fellow classmates and be able to stand in front of a class and be listened to, this will boost their self-confidence. I will also encourage students to articulate and follow their values. I will also provide support to my students needs to meet challenging academic demands and also help my students to master the fundamental of their studies. A good relationship between the two always gives good academic results. I will also engage my students in whatever activity we going to do because it will help me to know my students better and also know their weaknesses so it can strengthen our teaching and learning relationship.

Achieving those goals and seeing good results out of them will be a great honour to me because it will encourage me to push forward for a better working relationship with my students. It is stated in the conceptual framework of the University of Johannesburg that they are training us to be a Critical, Accountable, Reflective, Caring, Support and nurture learning development and Diverse educational context teacher.

The teaching and learning process will be a point where by I need to put into practise what I have gained after my training as a foundation phase teacher. My teaching and learning process will include the following; Planning, Evaluation, implementation and Assessment. As a future foundation phase teacher I would like to have a good teaching and learning relationship with my learners because I know that it will be easier for me to achieve or meet the curriculum implemented for my grade. In my teaching process I would allow discussions between me and my learners, interaction between the learner and the teacher, adaptation by the world, by a teacher and action by a learner and reflecting on the leaner’s performance by me as a teacher and the learner
.
I see myself as good product teacher that will be bounded by the conceptual framework of the University of Johannesburg. I will try to be the best possible teacher that one can be so that my standards can meet the conceptual elements of Uj. I will play remarkable roles that will benefit my students in a prosperous way. I will be a subject matter to my students, I will be accountable for everything. I will be the best organised teacher and also try my level best to meet the needs of my students. I will allow effective communication between me and my learner’s by being a good listener and be easily approached if they have any personal issues in their lives. My responsibility as a teacher will be to keep each student information confidentially. Most of all I will treat my learners with respect so they can respect me back.

A student needs to be open to me about any matter that he or she may have so I can be able to implement and evaluate. Students should also make studying their priority, they should also concentrate in class so that we can be on the same page. Students should also ask where they need clarification, should also obey the classroom rules to promote punctuality. Students should come to class presentable so they cannot disturb other learners by their self images. Most of all students should respect me as teacher to avoid unnecessary conflicts and delays to our learning and teaching.

In order to promote optimum learning a well conducive learning environment must be provided. Learning must take place in an environment that is well equipped for learning and has all the resources. The language of communication that is used to teach must accommodate all students in order to promote effective communication. Students with communication barriers such as speech impairments, hearing impairments should be identified and be looked after so they can also be able to learn and understand what is taught.

The teaching profession is a professional practice that is underpinned or supported by many values which are controlled by the South African Council of Educators which deals with the registration of teachers, promotes professional development of educators and promote ethical standards. Some teaching philosophies outline very well that we as teachers must be professional at all times so that our profession can be well respected and encourage others by our actions to take teaching as a profession and yes it is true we must make the teaching profession be recognized and be respected by the society. We need to value our profession a lot so the society can value and respect it too.
